At the Wall

I spend a while each Thursday morning praying at one of the two abortion facilities in town. There are often many different emotions that one experiences while praying there. There is a lot of hurt and brokenness. Most of the time it is very sad and tragic.

I would like to be able to explain that the fetus in the womb is a rapidly developing human being and that from the time that the first cell division, occurred, the life has been rapidly growing.

Most abortions occur within 6-12 weeks after gestation. During these 6 weeks, the majority of the major bodily functions and organs develop. The gender of the fetus can be detected, the heart begins to beat, lungs form, the brain and neural network forms. After 12 weeks, the fetus will continue to grow and mature but the vast majority of new functions and organs are finished.

There is no specific time when the fetus becomes a human or a life. Once the sperm and egg form, there is a unique set of DNA which will lead to the development of a child.

From 1 minute old until the child is well into their adolescence, they will require the support and care of adults. There is no moment between then where the child will practically be able to survive on their own.

That said, the tragedy is that there are abortions that occur for completely preventable causes such as lack of money or a lack of a desire to have the responsibility of a child. There are definitely incredibly difficult situations involved in all abortion decisions. However, I believe that each child is a gift from God. That all people are made in the image of God and that image is with us from the first cell division until we die.

Our value comes from who we are as people, we are children of God. There are many medical reasons why I don’t think that abortion is morally viable but these are superseded by the fact that God has formed each and all of us in the womb. He has knit us together and formed. He even loved us with a great love that he sent his son to the earth to create a way for us to be close with him.

It is because of this that I go to the clinic on Thursday mornings to pray. To support the Godly women that offer help and assistance to those who are going into the clinic for a procedure or information. The power Christians have is through prayer. We are called to love and to reach out to the lost and hurting. We don’t go to abortion clinics to condescend or cast guilt or condemn, we come to offer life and life abundantly.

There are many people and organizations that will help single moms and couples that are struggling with having a child to care for. There are many Godly men and women that will give their time and resources to invest in the lives of families that are overwhelmed with another child. There is not judgment but there is love and help and service.

There is even healing for those who have had abortions. Many people experiences depression and difficulty following abortions. And there is healing in Jesus Christ. I know some people who have been involved with abortion decisions and they have found and invested in groups that help people deal with these difficulties.

My heart breaks on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis. I want so badly for there to be freedom and life. As long as I am able, I hope to pray for the ending of abortion and the healing of our land.

We Will Run

Today, as I was praying at one of the local abortion facilities, I had the song We Will Run by Gungor playing in my head.

It is a beautiful song that really resonates with my heart. Lord, heal our land from abortion. Have mercy and may we turn from our sins and return to you. Heal this world, Father, make all things new! Bring us back to you.

His love and mercy bring us into life. He stands ready to heal us and to restore us.

Create in me a clean heart, a clean heart
For I have turned my face from You
Teach us of Your ways oh God, oh God
For we have turned away from You
Lord have mercy

We will run to you, we will run to you
Turning from our sin we return to You
Father heal your world, make all things new
Make all things new

Your love and mercy build and shape us
Break us and recreate us now
Lord have mercy

Oh, bring us back to you
